HAYSC - Harlingen Soccer

What is an Academy?

An academy is a curriculum based soccer school where U8 - U10 boys & girls recreation soccer players are placed in a professional, progressive development atmosphere. The aim is to prepare the serious soccer player for playing at the highest levels later in their career. The academy is also an arena where new coaches and trainers are taught and groomed.

Why should I attend?

It takes roughly 12 years to develop the complete soccer player. By introducing players to correct professional soccer training at the right age, we give them a foundation for success in HAYSC’s Celtic Soccer Program and beyond!
HAYSC Academy is the only STYSA approved professional training academy in Harlingen and the surrounding area. We aim to challenge young soccer players with our expertise and the most current training methods in the world of soccer.

Our Philosophy

Our goal is the Complete Soccer Player. The most important teacher in soccer is the game itself; this coupled with precise coaching is our formula for success. We balance fun, engaging games with professional, dynamic instruction. We aim not only to develop our players, but also our coaches so as to raise the level at HAYSC. We build the complete soccer player by focusing on four main points:

Technique

Tactics

Physical

Psychological.

About our Director of Academy

Dominic Currid

Dominic grew up playing soccer in his native Ireland with current up and coming names in the English and Scottish Premier League.

Early progression through the youth ranks of that European country saw him become one of the youngest players to pull on a jersey for local USL (Division 3) adult side Keadue Rovers FC at the age of only 15. Seeing regular action as a starter in both the USL side and club academy, it propelled him into the national pool. On the school side, his school was consistently recognized as having one of the top soccer programs, having multiple successes at national level of which he was a part of.

During his time in the national pool he went on to win representative honors at State and Regional level, being recognized as one of the top young goalkeepers in the country. In 2001 this culminated in an offer to join professional side Finn Harps FC (League of Ireland Division 1) for a pre season tryout; at the end of which he was offered a contract to join their ranks. Dominic immigrated to the U.S. in 2002, and searched for a high level of soccer in the Valley. He was selected to represent the Rio Grande Valley on the fledgling PDL Team: The RGV Coyotes.

During his training Dominic worked under multiple well known legends in Irish soccer; including world cup star Packie Bonner (Celtic FC, Rep of Ireland and current technical director for soccer in Ireland) and Declan McIntyre (Ireland, National Coordinator, National Goalkeeping Coach) to name but a few.

Dominic has been a professional soccer trainer for 9 years, eight of which with HAYSC. He has been involved with many of the Celtic teams in the club, almost all of which attained state honors on multiple occasions.

With his wealth of playing experience, 9 years of competitive training development and licensing, he brings a great deal of knowledge to Director of Academy position.
