Special Note to the Membership
.
We just concluded one of the best seasons we have enjoyed in the Club in many years, with over 1,200 children that had a lot of fun playing this great game of soccer. None of this would be possible without our dedicated volunteer coaches, Board members, and support staff that put in countless hours each and every week for children’s sake. This is your Club, and you elect the Board Members who operate the Club on your behalf. All coaches are highly encouraged to attend the monthly coaches’ meetings. If you have any questions regarding any aspect of the operation of the Club, the coaches meetings are the venue to ask those questions. The Board does our very best to make fair and unbiased decisions on any Club matters that require our attention. AYSC is no different than any other organization; sometimes we have differences of opinion as to what needs to be done. We all voice our opinions, we have debate, and in the end majority decisions rule and we move forward.
.
.
Communication of Club Information
.
In addition to the Club’s web site we have begun to utilize e-mail to communicate Club announcements and information to coaches, and we often receive e-mails from individuals with various questions. E-mail communication has proven to be an excellent and effective tool for this purpose. Unfortunately in the past few days our e-mail network was improperly used as a debate forum and several e-mails were exchanged. We regret that this happened and it will not happen again. In the future the Board will respond only to the individual making the inquiry (not to any others copied on the e-mails) regardless of the nature of the subject matter.

Our head trainer Carlos Laureano is now registering AYSC players interested in individualized professional training at the rate of $25.00 per child for one hour of training. If two or more children from the same team sign up for a session, the rate is reduced to $15.00 per child.
If interested please notify Dora Vargas at the AYSC office.

"Youth soccer recently lost a dear friend and champion of the game with the untimely passing of Pete Mariscal. Mr. Mariscal was one of the founding fathers of AYSC in Harlingen and helped many children enjoy the game of soccer who may not have had the opportunity to do so without his vision and dedication. The AYSC Executive Committee is pleased to announce that AYSC's annual scholarship funding program for underprivileged children has been officially named as the Pete Mariscal Scholarship Fund in his honor. While it is indeed unfortunate that Mr. Mariscal is no longer with us, his legacy will live on in the future providing children with an opportunity to play this great game."

To All AYSC Parents
& Players:
.
In the summer of 2004 AYSC's Executive Committee met on several
occasions with the City of
Combes
Administration
in regards to the potential use of the
Combes Complex for AYSC's game site. The parties
subsequently agreed it would be mutually beneficial, and AYSC made
preparation to move the Club's game site to the City of
Combes Complex
. In an effort
to get the fields ready for play in the fall, AYSC purchased $4,000 of
premium Panama Bermuda grass seed. Over the course of several
days AYSC volunteers brought their equipment and tilled and leveled the
fields, and planted and fertilized the grass seed. We purchased pipe
and materials for soccer goals and constructed and painted them.
We striped the fields with our own materials and equipment. We
purchased new soccer nets for the goals and stored them in the Combes
Complex storeroom. AYSC played the fall 2005 and spring 2006
seasons at Combes Complex. Playing at Combes did not work out to
our expectations, and we made the decision earlier this summer to
return to
Harlingen
for play effective
this fall as we felt this was the prudent thing to do for our kids.
Combes City Administration was not pleased with our
decision.
Earlier this summer we contacted Combes' City
Administration to make arrangements to pick up our goals and
nets from the Combes Complex, but Combes City Administration refused
to let us have our goals. We then attempted to make
arrangements with Combes City Administration to pick up our nets.
Initially, they refused to return our nets to us, and then a few
days later told us that our nets "could not be located".
AYSC has thus been forced to purchase new nets this fall
for the soccer fields for the upcoming fall season. This is an
unnecessary expense that we should not have had to incur. We have
precious little financial resources and it is indeed unfortunate that this
situation has occurred.

New
Harlingen
Soccer Complex!
Great news for all Club soccer
players! The Harlingen
City Commissioners have approved five million dollars towards the construction
of a new state-of-the-art soccer complex in Harlingen,
located on an 80-acre site in East Harlingen. The complex will hopefully be ready
for play by the fall season in 2007.
Below are the architect’s renderings of the preferred layout. Please take a moment to express
your appreciation to Mayor Rick Rodriguez and all of the City Commissioners
for their support of soccer in our community and our children. We will keep you posted as the
project moves forward.

Check back here for
more updates on the new complex.
